Call for Abstracts

The conference committee welcomes research abstracts for both oral and poster presentations on the topics listed below. Deadline for submission of abstracts is July 31, 2009. Notification of acceptance will be sent to you via email by August 31, 2009. If you would like to have your paper published in the proceeding CD, full paper must be submit no later than September 30, 2009. Guidelines for abstracts is available at www.ainec-globalhealth.com. Please note that the length of oral presentation is 20 minutes. Please indicate on the Abstract Submission Form one topic in which you recommend that your presentation be scheduled.

3rd International Nursing Conference Global Health in Transcultural Perspective Sheraton Mustika Hotel Yogyakarta, 17 – 19 November 2009

Millennium Declaration Goals (MDG) has been endorsed by World Health Organization (WHO) in 2000. It contains the universal framework for developing countries’ development. That MDG has targeted 2015 as the target date for achieving most goals. MDG consists of 8 goals: eradicate the extreme poverty and hunger, achieve universal primary education, promote gender equality and empower women, reduce child mortality, improve maternal health, combat IV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases, ensure environmental sustainability and develop a global partnership for development.

Based on the report that has been done in 2007, there are some progresses in health area, namely: the decline of child mortality rate and tuberculosis epidemic. Also, there is an expansion of malaria control.
Apart from that progress, there are still some challenges particularly in health area. The first one the high number in HIV prevalence and the increase number of people dying from AIDS. The second one is the high mortality of women due to complication of pregnancy and childbirth. Another challenge is the nutrition problem related to the high number in underweight children.

In order to overcome those challenges, one of the approaches is applying the multi professional collaboration. Collaboration has become a key challenge since achieving the goals requires the cooperation among many professionals, such as health care provider, economist, environmentalist, etc. The Improvement of collaboration between health care professionals may enhance satisfaction among them and the community as the clients. At the end, collaboration will increase the quality of life of the community.

The quality of life is the degree of well-being felt by an individual or group of people that consists of physical and psychological components. The physical aspect includes things such as health, diet and protection against pain and disease. The psychological aspect includes stress, worry, pleasure and other positive or negative emotional states.

Another important challenge is to consider with the transcultural perspective of the community since it becomes one of the essential issues nowadays. The benefit of the transcultural perspective in health professionals is for easing the transition in applying new values and beliefs related to development in health issues to the community. It means health professionals will enable their clients to improve or sustain their health as both parties are struggling with the contradictions of racism, oppression and ‘caring/curing’ that co-exists in a multicultural society.

The International Nursing Conference is an elaborated scientific forum that will discuss the domain of global health in transcultural perspective. This scientific meeting is going to involve some researchers in health areas. Resource: AINEC
